UPS InfoNotice: What It Means & How to Use It

Cardboard shipping boxes ready for delivery

Came home to a yellow-and-brown UPS slip on your door? That’s a UPS InfoNotice — left when the driver tried to deliver but couldn’t. It’s not just a “sorry we missed you” note; it tells you exactly where your package is and what to do next. Here’s how to read it and get your package.

This is an independent guide. Policies can vary by location — confirm details and track on the official ups.com. We are not affiliated with UPS.

What is a UPS InfoNotice?

A UPS InfoNotice is the printed notice a driver leaves after a delivery attempt when no one’s available to receive the package (or a signature is required). It’s a decision point: it shows whether UPS will try again, has redirected your package, or is holding it for pickup nearby.

The InfoNotice number

Look under the barcode for the InfoNotice number. You can enter it in the tracking field on ups.com — or just use your original tracking number — to see your package’s status and your options. The driver will also have checked one or more boxes on the slip indicating the attempt number, the date, and what happens next.

How many delivery attempts does UPS make?

UPS typically makes up to three delivery attempts on separate days at no extra charge. After the final attempt, the package is usually held for a short time for pickup or returned to the sender — so act on your InfoNotice promptly. (Exact handling can vary by package and location.)

Your options after a missed delivery

  • Wait for the next attempt — if another is scheduled, no action is needed.
  • Reschedule the delivery for a day that works.
  • Redirect the package to a UPS Access Point or The UPS Store to collect at your convenience.
  • Authorize release so the driver can leave it without a signature.
  • Pick it up at a UPS Customer Center.
